The Last Days of Summer - Bundoran, Co. Donegal

I thought I’d take a break from the usual wedding blogging and talk about some personal work. This time last year three friends, Declan, Sarah & Aishling went on a road trip to go surfing in Bundoran, Co. Donegal on the west coast of Ireland. I was excited because it was the first time I’d been on a holiday where I had an excess of money and was ready to make it a blow-up adventure of sun, surf, and whisky… that idea was soon thrown out the door. Halfway there we stopped at a petrol station to gather some goodies to keep spirits up for the rest of the drive, having a massive sweet tooth I loaded up on sweets galore; licorice straws, Toblerone, apple candies, anything, and everything sugar-coated… it was only when I got to the check-out that I found my ATM card wasn’t working. I shot Declan a sad look and put most of the stuff back. In what I can only assume was the universe’s way of kicking a guy when he’s down I spent the last of my physical cash on a burger that looked amazing on the menu but when it arrived though… the only way I could describe it was like doing a shot of burger with a disappointment chaser.

Luckily my friends helped me out with money (sorry guys for being a leech) and the weather was amazing, and in the end it was a really fun weekend. I can’t describe how much I love the west of Ireland, when the weather is right there’s no better place… it’s the Ireland you see in ads, Ireland that Americans travel here for. It’s like a temperate version of being on holiday in Greece with the bonus of no mosquitos!

Seeing the sun setting over the sea, the golden light reflecting against Burdoran's cliff head sold me, I was hooked. Bundoran itself is very laid back, there’s a huge surf culture here with an annual festival called Sea Sessions being hosted here celebrating surf, music & all things related. Let's see if I can make it down for the next one.
